Mark an item as backordered and be able to filter

Often in vet med, items go on backorder and we are unable to get them or there is a significant delay. It would be helpful to be able to mark an item as backordered and be able to filter by backorder items in order to followup on them. As of right now, I have to override the order amount manually and keep a separate list.
